It took over a year to complete but simulating 31 days in 1652 through wargaming scenarios is done. Prince Rupert's odyssey taking the small Royalist fleet through trials and tribulations from its origin in 1648 to its demise in 1653 is an incredible tale. We took one month from the 50 or so and made a campaign out of it.

Four battered ships arrive off the mouth of the Gambia river on March 1st 1652 in search of income sources to continue the struggle against Cromwell's Republic. What they get is a rollicking adventure on land and sea involving sea battles, politicial intrigue, murder, jungle forays, deadly fauna, native armies, pirates, slavers, disease, shipwrecks and treasure.

With Talon & Claw is a comprehensive guide to gaming the Great Northern War and Eastern Wars.

We are very close to going to print with our long planned and researched guide to the Jacobite infantry regiments at Aughrim. As every plate will have a representation of unit flags, we want to get as much detail right as is possible bearing in mind the scant available source materials.

I was delighted to see Helion's second volume on the Karoliner by Sergey Shamenkov drop through the door yesterday. It follows the familiar style and weighs in at 165 pages. The book is most definitely a uniform guide and not a history of the cavalry or its exploits. Its sections deal with organization, recruitment, tactics, uniforms of troopers, NCOs and officers of Horse, Dragoons and the Drabant corps, musicians, musical instruments and horse furniture.

Beneath the Lily Banners has been out of print for quite some time but the demand continues to be high. Other priorities prevented us getting to it for update and reprint but we have finally bitten the bullet and committed to a fully revised and update 3rd Edition. We are not calling it a 4th edition because very little needs to be changed. It will not be themed as was The War of Three Kings but rather will cover in detail, the period 1660 - 1720.

Often, massive historical events are dismissed in a single sentence.

The Grand Alliance and French met at Steenkirk on August 3rd, 1692 resulting in a sharp reversal for Willem van Oranje.

Wargamers need detail. I decided to really dig deep and analyse a biggie to determine just how many significant wargaming opportunities existed in a single large event.

Next weekend, Colin and I will be demonstrating Rolling Thunder! at The Other Partizan, Newark. The rules should (fingers crossed) be available this week.

The game is Day 1, Part 1 of The Four Days Battle, June 1st-4th, 1666. The outnumbered English fleet attempts to catch the Dutch at anchor. Most of the English ships will attack Cornelisz Tromp's Rear Squadron.

I am very much looking forward to returning to the important locations of the turbulent story which is the history of the House of Stuart. For now at least, the Braes of Killiecrankie remain much as they were in 1689 when Dundee's clans swept away General Mackay's pacification army in the name of James VII (II).

We are developing new products all the time. Right now I am close to finishing and publishing the Mad for War fleet rules which are called Rolling Thunder! The system uses multi-based ships on a 1:1 basis  utilizing smaller scale models to facilitate the painting and use of entire fleets in the Anglo-Dutch War period. This can mean upward of 100 ships per side.
